English cricket’s summer

England’s cricketers wintered in the Sub continent and didn’t fare too well considering they are current world number one test team. The experiences in Dubai against a resurgent Pakistani team, was a step back in terms of the momentum gained since the 2010/11 Ashes success. Kevin Pietersen struggled to come to terms with left hand spinners.

The trip to Sri Lanka, saw England finishing strongly in the final test, to level the series 1-1. It was clear that England possess a top order to compete with bowlers around the world, and there is much consistency there, and the bowling attack is clearly showing immense promise, there’s pace, height and the spin department is well covered too.

This summer’s tourists West Indies will have a tough job cracking England’s test dominance. The Windies need the likes of Chris Gayle to be playing, but he’s simply been too distracted by the trappings of twenty 20 glory.

In August, there will be a third ODI international against Scottish Saltires in Edinburgh. This will be a huge opportunity for Scotland to make a mark, as Ireland have been the dominant force in Associate cricket in recent seasons.
